Scientific Seal of Longevity
The "Seven Countries Study", which began in 1958, scientifically proved that Cretan olive oil is the "secret" to the lowest rates of cardiovascular disease worldwide. Ploumi olive oil is the authentic product of a region that changed the way the global medical community perceives nutrition.
Crete became the global model of longevity through the Seven Countries Study, laying the foundations for what we now call 'Blue Zones'.
The "Seven Countries Study" is the cornerstone of modern nutrition and the genesis of global recognition for Cretan Olive Oil.
It was launched in 1958 by American physiologist Ancel Keys. It examined the relationship between diet and cardiovascular disease in 12,763 men, aged 40-59, in seven different countries (USA, Finland, Netherlands, Italy, Yugoslavia, Japan, and Greece).
The "Cretan Paradox"
The results were shocking to the scientific community at the time:
- Crete had the lowest mortality rates from heart disease and cancer, despite high fat consumption.
- The difference: While Finns ate saturated fats (butter), Cretans consumed almost exclusively olive oil.
- The result: Cretans lived longer than all other populations in the study.
